Irish Computer Society Annual SCRATCH Competition
The pupils in 4th 5th and 6th class participated in the ICS SCRATCH coding competition. During school and by some evening classes via zoom the pupils learned how to code using the coding language SCRATCH. They worked individually or in pairs creating projects of their choice.

Congratulations to Honor Mannion in 4th class who won the Judge's Award in the the primary schools 2nd to 4th class category in the LERO and Irish Computer Society National Scratch Awards in the University of Limerick on 22nd May 2024.
Honor designed a Scratch project called 'Gesmo Goes Galway Style' in which Gesmo brings you on a tour of Galway city and county.

The pupils in 2nd and 3rd classes completed 6 classes of coding on the 6th of June 2024. During their classes they learned how to create variables, keep the score on a game, change backdrops and characters, ask questions and store answers. Using all this information the pupils worked in pairs and created quizzes for their class based on 'The Vikings, the Egyptians and the Continents of the World.

The pupils of 4th, 5th and 6th classes participated in EU Code week 2023. The pupils created 2D Shapes using Scratch. They all successfully drew squares, rectangles, hexagons, octagons and circles!. They then were given a challege to draw the Olympic flag. Well done to Caoimhe and Maria who were the first to complete the task.

Each year the pupils from 1st class to 6th class are taught how to code using the language SCRATCH by Mrs Kelleher.
1st and 2nd class pupils learn how to create characters make them walk and talk.
3rd and 4th class learn how to change the backgrounds, broadcast, timing, and create games such as Ping Pong and a Maze.
5th and 6th class progress to creating variables and keeping scores in games. They also integrate their SCRATCH projects with the Maths Strand 'Shape and Space'.
Pupils in 5th and 6th class present their History and Geography projects using Power Point.
